New Deck, Same Pool

We hope everyone fared well in the brutal heat this past week. We paced ourselves as best we could and completed a beautiful pool deck renovation.

The existing dated aggrandized concrete deck was experiencing issues and no longer fit our client’s needs. The time had come to refresh & expand.

The new interlocking paver pool deck included the coping as well. Both the deck paver & pool coping come from Cambridge Pavers. The field pavers are from the Sherwood Collection, Ledgestone XL, in Saharah/Chestnut/Lite, with a Smooth finish. The coping pavers are from the Crusader Collection measuring 12″x24″ in Sandstone Blend. We are delighted to have this complete just in time for the week of Fourth of July! Which we will be celebrating soon. Wishing you a safe & happy one!

Planting The NEW Charlottesville Bypass Fire Station

We planted around rain events this week at the brand new Fire Station along the 29 Bypass here in Charlottesville. We worked with Water Street Studios (Architect), Nielsen Construction (General Contractor), & Vess Excavating (Excavator) to bring this  native plant design into reality. We will be back in a month to plant the Biofiler located behind the new facility.

Funny aside. So, every jobsite is unique & this one was no exception! The site was so busy on Wednesday that we had to use the footpath through the woods behind the YMCA to get the trees placed on site. Each tree got their very own ‘hike’ through the woods to get to their forever destination. Talk about arriving in style & we are willing to be that we confused a few squirrels in the process.

Fall Reforestation

This week brought us one of our favorite kind of replanting jobs. The sustainable & biodiverse reforestation of pastureland. The property owner recognized that annual mowing was not a winning strategy. It is a unique property here in Afton that hugs a creek line at its border while a sunken spring runs underneath. We worked with the property owner, who lives here part time, to select species that could not only handle & thrive in hydric (wet) conditions but also provide maximum benefit to wildlife. All the critters will soon enjoy a grove of Native Persimmons & Paw-Paws, Arrowwood Viburnum, Button Bush, Red-Twig Dogwoods, and a Noble Legacy Tree, the Swamp White Oak.

The second Phase of planting would include Elderberry, American Holly, & perhaps even a Southern Wax Myrtle or two. There are grant opportunities to be had a s well by private homeowners who are looking for this type of conservation on their property through our VCAP (Virginia Conservation Assistance) Program that is administered through our local Soil & Water Conservation District. We have many successful clients that have used it for planting &/or Permeable Pavers. We would be happy to talk to you about it if you are interested.

What A Difference A Day Makes

It is amazing what a crew of four & two loads of woodchips can make happen in one workday.

This is what the property owner came home to after a summer vacation.

& this is how they are looking headed into the holiday weekend!

We were delighted to help our client reclaim their space that we had previously cleared of the failing Leyland Cypress hedge. We worked on a  replacement buffer of sustainable native plants. This landscape planting was installed two years ago & is still maturing. Doing very well even when there is competition for resources from other plants (or in this case weeds).

Proving once again the top end toughness of Native Plants! The reapplication woodchips used in this bed will also supercharge the soil.

Right plants in the right spaces coupled with healthy soil. It is a winning strategy.

Utilizing Native Perennials

The Landscaping Industry has been abuzz with the word ‘Native’ for a while now & is changing the way that Landscaping Professionals operate.

With access to healthy robust native plants we are often able to help clients bring their landscapes a more comfortably native look.

We don’t just do Hardscapes!

Spring Cleaning For Summer Fun

Spring is officially here & we are busy helping our clients achieve their warm weather goals. We cleaned this interlocking paver pool deck in Crozet & gave the landscaping a low maintenance face lift. It looks fresh & inviting even on a foggy day.

Summer will be here before we know it!

Let us know how we can support your outdoor space.

Epic Stonework at Historic Home

This milder winter weather has enabled us to really make progress on the outdoor renovation of a historic Victorian home here in Nelson County. This now privately owned residence had once been a popular bed & breakfast destination. The new owners are going the extra mile to make sure that the natural stone walls & stairs fit the overall aesthetic of the property. This newly added set of steps & walls (complete with step lights) is going to make backdoor access a breeze. The walls are concrete block at their core and veneered with this gorgeous native & locally sourced Piedmont Stone. The surface of the steps & landings are of bluestone out of Pennsylvania. We have a long way to go yet but already cant wait unit the exterior painters come. We know the fresh paint & new color scheme is really going to set off this master crafted masonry work.

Holiday Hopes

It has been a year of tremendous growth & change here at Windridge. At this time we are looking back at quite a year in review & find ourselves grateful for the people we have met through the projects that we have completed & for the members of our team.

We are capping the year off by coordinating the installation of some trees of substantial caliper that we hope will be enjoyed for decades yet to come. One exceptional tree that was installed had actually been set to be bulldozed this coming spring & now it is safely nestled on an estate in Scottsville just in time for the holidays.

So from all of us here at WRL,

Merry Everything & Happy Always!

Falling for New Equipment

Everyone has heard the phrase ‘right tool for the job’ but, back up a step, because it takes the right truck to get the tools to the jobsite in the first place. Part of the reason of why we do what we do here at Windridge is because we love trucks & big equipment! This brand new GMC Sierra HD Dually, from Charlie Obaugh Chevrolet GMC in Staunton, VA is a most welcomed addition to the fleet. She’s gotta get her decals on before she’s ‘road ready’, but if you see her rolling on down the road pullin a trailer behind her be sure to give a wave.

Urban Oasis (Progress)

We have been very busy with some exciting projects here at Windridge Landscaping & Hardscaping. Our current task is creating a backyard urban oasis for some terrific clients in Crozet & will post progress shots in the near future. Fiberglass form pools & spas form Latham are much quicker to install & kinder on the Ole’ Pocketbook. We cant wait to have this family in & enjoying their spillover spa all winterlong!
