Landscape Career Day

Windridge Landscaping will be hosting our first annual Landscape Career Day on April 25. This gives us an opportunity to get the next generation engaged in careers that will be meaningful, connect with people, and can help the environment. Around 100 high school students will be visiting for a tour, demonstrations,  and a Q & A.  We are excited to be partnering with Creation Appreciation, and Edible Landscaping to give students exposure to as many careers as possible.

Winter Watering

All plants are vulnerable to winter drought but new plants, especially evergreens, are extra susceptible and we are heading into winter well below normal rainfall for this time of year.  For example a 3 gallon boxwood needs approximately 3 gallons of water a month.  It would require rain for 3/4 of a day slow a steady for our boxwood to get what it needed.  The easiest method is a 5 gallon bucket with 8-10 nail holes in it, fill with your hose to the appropriate level and it will drain out before it can freeze. Don’t forget to drain and store your hose properly.

Snow On Natural Stone Walls

These walls were built a few years ago but they always make me think of the first snow of the year. We hope everyone is ready and looking forward to a beautiful holiday season. We are busy finishing our pool project and look forward to some new pictures soon.

A Pool With A View

There can be tough job sites to work at but the past couple weeks the guys have been lucky enough to work at a site with breathtaking views of our Virginia landscape.  We’re installing a new pool deck featuring Cambridge Ledgestone pavers. This finished project is going to be well worth the wait. Now’s the time to do a face lift on your pool, so when summer comes it’s all about enjoying it!

Grateful In November

As we prepare for the chill of winter, it gives us pause.  A time to be grateful. Grateful for the wonderful people that work for us and make what we do a pleasure. Grateful to our families for putting up with working when the sun is shining and resting when it’s raining.  Grateful to our clients for asking us to come into their lives. We landscape because it’s what we love, thank you.

Putting Our Plants To Bed

Did you know that it’s a good idea to water plants before a freeze because wet soil holds more heat than dry. Here at Windridge we’re lucky to be able to tuck our plants safely inside our green houses to keep them protected. A little effort in the fall can go a long way to ensuring happy plants in the spring. Creative Landscaping

Landscaping can bring an area of your house to life that you once avoided. At this job we wanted to cleaned up an area around the rear entrance of the house. Sky Pencils are used in this setting because they are evergreen, vertical and will stay neat year round. Eventually they will provide the HVAC unit with shade which will increase efficiency in the hot summer months.

Reclaiming Your Space

Claiming unused space. That deck you built a few years ago with space underneath that isn’t really usable or safe. Using tiered retaining walls this family gained square footage that will soon become a patio and beds to plant in. Steep hills made for a challenging work environment but I think in the end it was all worth it.

Start Thinking Pool Season Now

Now’s a great time to think about a pool renovation or installation. A fall makeover means your updated pool will be ready for spring. Removing the old concrete deck and installing a blue stone patio as well as veneering existing block walls for added seating gives this backyard a stunning new look. Other ideas include adding a water feature or firepit to your pool deck for extending your poolside time.

From Old To New

A cracking aggregate sidewalk made for a treacherous situation and a lack of stairs made for steep hills in the rear of the home. Just in time for the fall colors, Windridge installed Eagle Bay’s Kingsland pavers in the Jefferson color range to create a safe and beautiful space for this family to enjoy the outdoors.
